Policy regarding taking an 8th Subject

  1. Pupils in Grade 9 wishing to take an extra 8th subject from Grade 10 on, need to apply before the end of the Grade 9 year.  The application form must be completed by parents and all the subject teachers for the pupil. A copy of the pupils' latest report must be attached to the application. The application will be considered by the school Management Committee (MANCO).
    The following criteria are applicable:
    1.1 the pupil must be obtaining at least a 70% aggregate in the Grade 9 year.
    1.2 A minimum of 60% in Grade 9 must be obtained in the subject chosen as the 8th subject for Grade 10.
    1.3 ALL teachers for all the pupils' subjects in Grade 10 must approve of the learner's intent to study an extra subject.
  2. The pupil, if successful in the application, will be required to work independently. A meeting with the subject teacher/tutor for at least one hour a week will be arranged.
  3. The cost of the tuition of the 8th subject will not be included in the "No Surprises" inclusive fee of the school.  The cost for an 8th subject will be R1200,00 per term, payable in advance at the start of each term.
  4. The pupil taking the 8th subject must complete all work related to the subject such as classwork, tests, exams, projects etc.  All work must be completed timeously.
  5. MANCO will evaluate the performance of the pupil in the 8th subject every term and reserves the right to stop the tuition of the pupil in the subject if it is deemed that the performance in the subject is not satisfactory or that the overall academic performance of the pupil is being negatively impacted by taking an extra subject.
